So many intellectuals in the past have tried to analyse the flaws in our educational system, trying to pinpoint exactly with whom and where the problem lies. From a personal point of view, I think the system should take more of the blames that the innocent students who are more like the victims of the circumstance.
I have come to understand what people meant when they say the youths of this generation especially in Nigeria are not ready to take over the onus of control and influence in this nation. When we look at certain issues.
One of the reasons this is so is because of what I call flaws in our educational system. Chalk and board education. Cosmetic way of tutorship. What it brings out is very articulate minds who can speak English and twist words into word salad but cannot transfer this knowledge to something aside that pseudo-intellectualism.
It is synonymous to what Mr.Raji Fashola was doing with the planting of flowers all across Lagos few years ago all in the name of beautifying Lagos without taking into consideration and cognizance that such approach would not stand the test of time. Feeding paracetamol to a patient with Migraine.
There is a fundamental problem with our education in Nigeria.
If you take a school leaver O’ level and you enroll him with a tailor, 3 years after he would be able to sew any style of clothing.
If you take a school leaver and you enroll him with a mechanic, 3 years later, he would be able to fix just any car, even the complex internal combustion engine and its systems.
