Now that the holiday season is behind us and we’re moving quickly towards February, I think it’s a good time to stop and reflect on what matters most in life. It’s easy to get wrapped up both figuratively and literally in gifts, but it’s about the people we spend time with and family traditions that matter most.
Having grown up in Michigan where winters are cold, and the snow is deep, it’s always been a family tradition to drive up north and cut down a fresh Christmas tree. They last longer, smell fresher, and it’s a fun adventure that can make any city slicker like myself feel like a lumberjack for the day.
This year, I had the opportunity to take the 2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty Platinum on my little adventure. Out of all the ultra-heavy duty pickups, the F-Series offers one of the poshest interiors behind the RAM, especially if you option up the Limited model, which offers unique leather, wood trim, gauges and a center armrest which states the serial number and model information. Naturally, all modern luxury features are included, such as heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, a bird’s eye view camera system and distance guided cruise control.
The 2020 Ford Super Duty, which I haven’t driven yet, now offers best in class towing capabilities from its 6.7L turbo-diesel V8 engine, which produces 475 hp and 1,050 lbs.-ft. of torque. That translates to a 37,000-pound towing capacity with a gooseneck style hitch. So we can put that into perspective, the 2019 model had a max gooseneck towing capacity of 35,000-pounds.
Once we found the perfect tree, I used an old fashion hand saw to cut it down then tossed it into the bed with the help of some friends. However, if we had the money, time and a decent sized trailer, we could have provided Christmas trees for the surrounding blocks of my neighborhood!
Final Thoughts
The 2019 Ford Super Duty is a solid truck. However, I would go for the 2020 version as it has an updated body, stronger components, better engine options, and an all-new 10-speed transmission, which should significantly improve the driving experience. But that didn’t stop us from having a good time out in the country with the 2019 F-250 on a freezing December afternoon.
