President, Network of People living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Abdulkadiri Ibrahim, on Monday emphasised that HIV/AIDS had no known cure.
He was speaking against the backdrop of miracle healings of People living with HIV/AIDS
Ibrahim, in a chat with NAN, condemned religious bodies, herbalists and spiritualists deceiving Nigerians.
“AIDS has no cure, anybody telling you the contrary is just lie,” Ibrahim said.
The president cautioned against carelessness, adding that the solution for now is regular intake of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) in compliance with medical prescription.
Ibrahim called for more awareness creation and sensitization on facts and management of HIV/AIDS, which he said was the way forward.
He hailed the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) over its campaign and advocated effective collaboration among stakeholders as an imperative in achieving an HIV free society.
According to UNAIDS, the UN body on AIDS in Nigeria, a total of 1,900,000 people were living with HIV as at 2018.
In the same year, 130,000 people were newly infected with HIV while 53 000 people died from AIDS-related illnesses.
