An ambitious way to commence a new month today, as the Honourable Commissioner for Tourism convened a ‘game changing’ meeting among strategic Government Officials, Hotel Owners Association Representatives, and other Critical Stakeholders to re-define the position of the hotel industry in Imo State for good!
As we all know, Hotels in Imo remain one of the largest employer of Labour in the State, therefore this meeting is as pivotal as it gets. Contributions were made from the Commissioner of Tourism herself, Commissioner, for Finance, Special Adviser on IGR, Chair of Hotel Associations Imo, and Special Adviser to the Governor on Diaspora Affairs plus other attendees.

Cllr. Celia Osakwe-Hibbert the Special Adviser to the Governor (Sen. Hope Uzodinma), commended the Honourable Commissioner of Tourism for convening a meeting of this crucial importance. The SA stated that “Several economies thrive mainly on Tourism alone” hence the move to build a strong understanding of the potentials of the Hotel Industry in Imo, cannot be underestimated.
The Special Adviser Cllr Celia Osakwe-Hibbert, also noted that a high proportion of Hotels in Imo are owned by Diasporas and that these group of people will play a major role in terms of exchanging ideas on ‘best practices’ and helping the Tourism industry in the State to unlock it’s maximum potentials and help to drive sustainable policies obtainable in counterpart countries in the Diaspora.
She promised to disseminate the information to the Diaspora’s; on the required ‘new direction’ the State is going, as Cabinet Members continue to power on with the ‘3R’ mantra; Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Recovery vision of the Executive Governor of Imo State.
This meeting was held in earlier today, the 1st of May 2020 at Villa Sur Rive Hotel, Aladinma; a hotel proudly owned and run by a Diaspora from Canada.
