As the lockdown gets called off in some states in Nigeria, it is imperative that people maintain social distancing and engage in routine health sanitisation which also includes hand sanitisation.

The Management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Owerri Imo State today archived another great milestone in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic, by launching a pedal-operated hand washing machine, an electronic hand washing machine and also a solar-powered automated hand washing machine.

He demonstrates how the pump works, by first explaining how you turn on the soap and water pumps by stepping on the gears. The water pump then lets water through for about twenty seconds after which a towel is provided to dry your hands.

Then the sanitizer vial is triggered by another foot-operated gear which lets out a bit of alcohol-based sanitiser.

He also shows off other varieties of the hand sanitizing pumps like the electrically powered variety and the solar-powered variety.

This milestone was in a bid to showcase their ingenuity in technology advancement. The fabrication and production of these machines were carried out by a team of engineers of the polytechnic engineering faculty.

The Rector, Engr. Michael Arimanwa promised to go into mass production of the machines which will be positioned in different strategic points within the Polytechnic community for the students upon their resumption.
