River State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday went on an arresting spree which saw him detaining a lot of people who violated the lockdown order of the state government.
The governor made the arrests while monitoring the compliance level of the lockdown in parts of the Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas of the state.
The governor had in a state-wide broadcast declared a 24-hour lockdown on Elekahia, including the entire stretch of Rumukalagbor-Elekahia link road; Rumuomasi, including Stadium Road; and Rumuobiokani.
Wike had explained that the latest lockdown was part of measures to check the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
In a video which has gone viral on social media, Wike is seen personally running checks on people’s identities and quickly detaining those who don’t meet the criteria for the exemption of the lockdown.
