Hand gloves do little or nothing to protect you from illnesses and infections in a non-clinical setting says Family Nurse Health practitioner Nkasiobi Violet Uluocha, MSN, APRN, BS, FNP-BC.
“Hand gloves are only necessary if the occasion calls for it but in the normal societal setting, experts argue that they do not help much in preventing diseases. They are not as important as the face masks and a better alternative to hand gloves is the hand sanitizer”
“Take for example, you are on a bus and someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 sneezes, and you have your hand gloves on and not your facemask, do you think that you have been protected from the virus?”
“Another example is that you touch a contaminated surface with your hand gloves and then you walk into a grocery store while thinking that you are safe and you touch a lot of things, fruits, vegetables. You end up contaminating a lot of things while still thinking that you are safe. ”
“And at the end of the day when you get home and take off the gloves, you see that you have only made the issue worse”
“The best alternative to a hand glove is the hand sanitser which you can use at intervals and be sure of at least sixty percent protection from the virus”
