Top Family Nurse Health practitioner Nkasiobi Violet Uluocha, MSN, APRN, BS, FNP-BC has decried the abuse and misuse of antibiotics and how it is fatally harmful to human health.

She talks about how people who have viral infections always try to take or overdose on antibiotics which is not even necessary for healing.

Other people may end up with a cold, backache, or similar infections and when they go for a check-up at the medical facilities, they are diagnosed with a viral infection but instead of Antibiotics, they are given other drugs which keep them wondering why they weren’t given antibiotics.

She goes further to explain that viral infections are very much different from bacterial infections even though they may seem alike most of the time.

Antibiotics can cure most bacterial infections, but antibiotics cannot cure viral illnesses. When you’re sick, antibiotics are not always the answer. When not used correctly, antibiotics actually can be harmful to your health.

“Antibiotics are the only class of drugs that become ineffective for other patients with overuse. Bacteria are smart and resilient. They make antibiotics ineffective in several different ways”

Bacterias are biological cells that cause diseases by secreting harmful toxins and competing for vital resources in the body with normal organic cells. While Viruses are not cells, rather they are biological organisms that hide inside body cells and hamper their functionalities.

Antibiotics work by killing bacterial cells leaving our own cells untouched. But since Viruses are contained within our cells, it is very difficult to actually eradicate them, and antibiotics serve little or no purpose in that respect.

Over time, the practise of taking antibiotics for viral infections has created bacterial organisms that are stronger and more resistant to normal antibiotic drugs.

Self-prescribing on antibiotics is very harmful and dangerous, they must always be prescribed by a qualified health practitioner.
