NEMA Reacts As Fire Destroys Borno IDP Camp, Kills One

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed the incident in a post on its official Twitter page on Sunday.

NEMA reported that the fire incident claimed the life of one and wrecked sources of water serving the IDPs.

The agency, however, added that a response team has been deployed to the camp to provide temporary supplies and assessment of the damage.

The tweet read: “NEMA has responded to the fire incident at Muna Albadawy Internally Displaced Persons Camp in Borno State.

“The fire occurred late Saturday 23/5/2020 and caused a death, destroyed shelters, property and the 2 sources of water serving the 9,678 IDPs (1613 households.

“Northeast zonal office of NEMA has deployed a water tanker to the camp for temporary water supplies and conducted a rapid assessment to provide immediate relief of food, non- food items and other supports together with Borno SEMA and other partners.”
