Africa Daily News, New York had reported that the state First Lady, Eunice Ortom and her son had tested positive for coronavirus.

However, the body prayed for God’s intervention and healing upon the infected persons.

This was contained in a statement signed by the state Chairman of CAN, Rev. Akpen Leva and Rev. Jonathan Ugbede, CAN Secretary in the state.

According to the statement: “On behalf of the Christian community in Benue State, we humbly write to identify with you and to express our deep concern over the spread of COVID-19 in Benue State. We were particularly bewildered when we got to know that your family members including your wife, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ortom, your child among others tested positive for COVID-19.

“Also of great bewilderment is the testing positive of some top government functionaries including the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Tony Ijohor (SAN) and Chief of Staff, Mr. Terwase Orbunde among others.

“The infection of members of the first family and some top government functionaries in the state is a great set back to the Benue people and equally catastrophic even as their desire has been to serve the people of the state. We are aware that their major worry is not the infection but their inability to serve the Benue people at the moment.

“As a church we are touched by the psychological trauma you and the entire state have been enveloped in but as part of our responsibility we have intensified our prayers to seek God’s intervention, and we strongly believe that God in his infinite mercies will definitely heal them to enable them continue with the good works/services to the people of the state.

“We also urge you to have faith in the God you serve. Our God does not disappoint. Be encouraged that before a strand of hair falls from one’s head, He has known.

“Once again, be assured that we are solidly behind you in the fight against COVID-19 and with sustained prayers we will win.”
