Bill To Allow NASS To Summon President Scales Second Reading

Following a circular by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) on Wednesday directing the National Assembly staff who are 60 years of age or those that have spent 35 years in service to proceed on retirement, a group – Omolori Solidarity, has accused the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives of mischief.

The circular ordering the retirement was signed by the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission, Engr. Ahmed Kadi Amshi.

In a statement  on Thursday by the convener of the group, Sani Yaro, he said, over 1,000 Nigerians have been mobilised for protest at the Assembly at noon of Thursday.

The group revealed that those who shall participate in today’s protest are students, some staff of the National Assembly, and workers from the private and public sectors.

Part of the statement reads: “In acknowledgment of the fact that the mischief in high places at the National Assembly as well as needless intrigues towards effecting the removal of the Clerk of the National Assembly (CNA), Alhaji Sani Omolori, has reached high level of concern; we hereby declare our intention to help safeguard the inalienable rights of our inimitable brother, Alhaji Omolori.

“The Omolori Solidarity Group, comprising some National Assembly staff, students, workers in the private and public sectors have come together in a development triggered by an overreaching, callous and mischievous memo from the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) dated July 15, 2020 and implying that the CNA must be rushed out of office prematurely.”

The group further maintained that the Senate President planted his former Aide as NASC Chairman with the support of the House Speaker to remove the Clerk to the NASS in order to pave way for their candidate.

The group warned the leadership of NASS to get set for lawsuit, if the removal of Omolori was effected today.
