The Acting Deputy National Publicity Secretary of All Progressive Congress, APC, Yekini Nabena has alleged that a governor from the North-West Nigeria is behind the banditry plaguing the North.
Nabena made the claim while responding to a protest organised by the Peoples Democratic Party calling for the release of the then abducted students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State. He said he kept the name of the North-West governor as a secret because of the sensitive nature of the intelligence report.

Nabana further claimed that the increasing wave of banditry in the North-West was politically-motivated and was exacerbated by the alleged sponsorship of the governor in question, which he refused to mention.
It will be recalled that North-West has a total of seven states in which five of them are under the APC control. These includes; Kaduna (Nasir El-Rufai); Kano (Abdullahi Ganduje); Katsina (Aminu Masari); Jigawa (Badaru Abubakar) and Kebbi (Atiku Bagudu).
On the other hand the North-East region has two PDP governors who are Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto) and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara). It is not clear who the APC stalwart is referring to as of time of this report.
Reacting to this development, Nigerians on social media have criticised the Department of State Services, DSS, for failing to arrest the Mr. Yekini Nabena, over his claim as they did in the case of Obadiah Mailafia, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria when he made similar statement that a governor from the North is behind Boko Haram.
They wondered why the DSS was quick to arrest Obadiah Mailafia, but refused to arrest Nabena days after his statement. They accused the secret security agency of being biased.
