Popular activist and social speaker, Comrade Duke Aigboje has spoken out on the recent rise in Nigeria’s International and local debt profile.
He made his stance known during an early morning segment on PEN Radio named ‘The Morning Tea’ while fielding questions from host of the show.
Duke Aigboje minced no words as he decried the rate at which Nigeria was borrowing and growing its economy on debts and more heavy debts.
‘No country ever borrowed its way to prosperity.’
He lamented on the fact that most of the borrowed debts were all going into personal accounts of looters and siphoners in the Nigerian Government and not to the infrastructural development that they are actually intended for.
Comrade Aigboje noted that the funds would manage to find its way back to the foreign countries while the borrowing countries still remain impoverished.
Comrade Duke Aigboje went further to lambaste the Nigerian government and some other AAfrican leaders for encouraging the norm of borrowing and begging for aid from other foreign countries who in turn take advantage of the country’s debt profile to siphon and steal from them which further puts them in a state of utter poverty.
He made a call for African leaders, especially the present President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to emulate the erstwhile President of Tanzania, Sir John Magufuli who banned foreign aid and the amassing of any form of foreign debts in Tanzania. He also referenced the former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure as a civilian President who decreased Nigeria’s debt profile and encouraged the factor of ingrown wealth in the country.
