Ethiopia’s education minister has stated that the war in northern Tigray region of the country has forced at least 1.42 million students out of school, with more than 7,000 schools damaged.
Getahun Mekuria explained that neighbouring Amhara and Afar regions will also be affected, with the fighting having spread to these regions.

Already, hundreds of schools in Amhara and Afar have been vandalised in the ongoing fighting in the past month, he further revealed.

Thousands of people have been killed, millions others displaced since the conflict began in November last year, with hundreds of thousands others requiring humanitarian assistance.
