2023 Stop Threatening The North, Shekarau Warns Southern Govs

A former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has warned all the 17 Southern Governors against ‘ganging up’ and ‘issuing threats’ in their desperate bid to get the 2023 presidential slot by all means.

Shekarau, who represents Kano Central District in the Senate, while stating this on Monday when he appeared on Channels Television’s morning show: ‘Sunrise Daily’, which was monitored by Africa Today News, New York however, warned them to desist from such acts.

The APC chieftain, who also argued that the number one seat in the country should be zoned to the South, urged his party leaders to ensure its presidential ticket is handed over to a capable and credible candidate in the Southern region.

According to him, such development would give every Nigerian “a sense of belonging”, stressing that the Southern Governors should stop “ganging up” to demand presidency in 2023.

Shkerau joins Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who has maintained that his colleagues in the North under the aegis of the Northern Governor’s Forum has never opposed the idea of the presidency going to the South in 2023.

El-Rufai, however, pointed out that the regional governors were only against the language used by the southern governors on the issue of power shift, saying that the north cannot be threatened but appealed to.

According to him, southern governors should have reached out to their northern counterparts on the issue of power shift instead of playing to the gallery and issuing threats.
