English Premier League Chief, Hoffman Announces ResignationGary Hoffman

The Chairman of the English Premier League, Gary Hoffman has announced his resignation after barely 18 months in the job.

The details of his departure are now being finalised, however, Africa Today News, New York gathered that it came after a number of top-flight clubs demanded he left the position.

One of the major reasons that led to his resignation was the Saudi Arabia-led takeover of Newcastle United.

The report said that the controversy over the European Super League is another reason but the Newcastle situation proved too much for Hoffman to survive.

There are concerns about how the new owners passed the owners’ and directors’ test due to human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia, with Amnesty International since calling for the ownership test to be changed.

Hoffman, who was chairman of Monzo Bank Limited, Hastings Group Holdings plc and Coventry Building Society, became the EPL boss in July 2020.
