The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) says its syllabus has been reviewed to accommodate advancement in technology and other global operating systems.
The Institute made this known at its virtual ICSAN Syllabus Launch and Unveiling of New Certificates on Friday.
President of the Institute, Mr Gbenga Owokalade, said the institute in its devotion to furthering education and principles of corporate governance became mindful of the need to stop using the past syllabus.

He noted that ICSAN went through a rigorous process, scanned the environment, identified issues germane to keep members at top speed with essential fundamentals by upgrading their skills to ensure board and organisational success.
Owokalade added that the institute’s new certificate, which could not be tampered with due to the security emblem would carry the picture of the bearer and provide more information at a glance than the regular one.
“The system is no longer as it used to be and we have to ensure that we position our members rightly as events unfold.
“The challenges with the kind of environment that we are in has made us go back to create a certificate that is higher than the challenges and has what it takes to be a modern certificate,” he said.
Prof. Oluwole Adewunmi, Chairman, Education Committee, ICSAN, said a review was an important periodic activity that recognised institutions across the world engaged in their fulfill obligations.
He said the institute partnered the Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, United Kingdom, for the preparation of their members for appropriate knowledge and skills.
He noted that the previous syllabus, which was locally prepared catered to local peculiarities with minimum international standards.
Adewunmi said the syllabus review was done significantly to accommodate the huge changes in the global operating environment.
“As can be evidently gauged, we have expanded the scope of the institute’s four core subjects from the old one as corporate governance to corporate governance: private, public and non profit in the new one, from corporate administration to corporate administration and risk management.
“The third and fourth are from financial management to financial management and strategy, and from corporate secretary ship to corporate secretary ship and board dynamics,” he said.
In his remarks, Prof Kabir Adeyemi, Vice Chancellor, Lead City University, Ibadan, said the new syllabus would improve attitude, and orientation of members in upholding ethics of corporate governance and administration towards greater value.
He said the rapid advancement in information technology and artificial intelligence, and its disruptive nature, made it imperative to improve the skill of members.
“This has led the institute to tailor its curricular to further meet the changes of the marketplace and the profession as a whole, given the importance of curriculum development in education,” he said.
