The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Johnson Kokumo, has assured inhabitants of Ekiti State that there will be adequate security of lives and properties during and after the state governorship election which is slated to hold tomorrow.
Kokumo, who has been saddled with the responsibility of securing the state during the Saturday governorship election, gave this assurance while speaking at a pre-election stakeholder security meeting in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital yesterday which was monitored by Africa Daily News, New York.
The DIG revealed that no fewer than 17,000 security operatives had been deployed for the poll to ensure that the state was properly secured to avoid any breakdown of law and order.
He emphasised that the deployed operatives were meant to secure the state and not for any form of intimidation of the citizens.
Kokumo added that soldiers would be at the borders of the communities to secure every corner of the state and prevent any type of intruders from entering.

He disclosed that security operatives attached to all Very Important Persons (VIPs) had been withdrawn and returned to base for the purpose of the election.
The DIG also called on the people to be law-abiding and respect all the processes of the election, to be able to have a peaceful and credible poll in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has appealed to its staff to uphold the commission’s Code of Conduct, display usual sense of responsibility, and professionalism and firmly resist any unethical behaviour during the June 18 Ekiti governorship election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the appeal in Abuja in his message to INEC staff on the State’s election.
He went on to advise them to ensure that no political party or candidate was accorded any advantage over the other.
Yakubu said from June 2021 when INEC released the timetable and schedule of activities for the poll, it had collectively implemented several activities and taken every step to guarantee a free, fair, credible, and inclusive process.
