Recruitment Of 40 Medical Students Approved By Gov Zulum

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum has expressly approved the recruitment of 40 medical doctors of the state origin who studied medicine from various tertiary institutions within and outside Nigeria in a bid to incorporate a better service structure for the Borno State medical sector.

Governor Zulum had made this disclosure  when he granted audience to the newly graduated medical doctors in Maiduguri. He had opined that the recruitment was approved as part of the measures to enhance healthcare delivery in the state.

According to him, accommodation will be provided to those who are willing to serve in the state.

In his speech, the Permanent Secretary, Borno State Ministry of Health, Dr. Muhammad Nguluze, assured that the medical practitioners were ready to work in their home state to give back to their people.

Nguluze disclosed that some of them were part of students sponsored by the Borno State Government to study in Sudan and Egypt.

The Governor has also inaugurated two oxygen plants with 23 solar-powered refrigerators donated by the Japanese government.

The oxygen supply project have been billed to directly benefit about 7.1 million people, including children and women in 27 councils of the state.

Inaugurating the twin plants, yesterday, Zulum, represented by his deputy, Usman Kadafur, said the oxygen plants with solar-powered refrigerators are located in State Specialists Hospitals Maiduguri and Biu local government area, which will strengthen healthcare delivery system in the conflict areas of Borno.

“We’ll continue to accord priority to the development and sustenance of healthcare infrastructural facilities to save more life,” he said.

Unfolding the importance of oxygen, the United Nations Office for Project Services, UNOPS, Project Supervisor, Engr. Atinuke Fakunle, said that it will strengthen healthcare provision and build resilience of health systems in conflict and hard-to-reach communities.
