The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has disclosed the real age of Nwamini David Ukpo, the man at the centre of the alleged transplant saga involving former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice who are presently in prison custody.
The Comptroller General of NIS, Isa Jere, revealed Ukpo is actually 21 years and not 15 as reported in many media reports which has sparked outrage on social media.
He made this known while speaking to newsmen on Sunday.
Africa Today News, New York recalls that Ekweremadu and his wife were last week arrested by The Metropolitan Police at the Heathrow Airport, London for alleged human trafficking and organ harvesting.
They were arraigned on Thursday before Uxbridge Magistrates Court, but were denied bail and remanded in custody till July 7.
Meanwhile, in a related development, the University of Lincoln has announced the banning of Ekweremadu from undertaking any further duties as visiting professor after he was accused of trafficking a 15-year-old boy to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting.
They have both denied the trafficking charges.
Ekweremadu, before his arrest, met with members of the Nigerian community in Lincoln.
He had been a visiting professor of corporate and international linkages at the University of Lincoln.
But a spokesperson of the institution told Daily Mail: “Visiting professors are often, as is in this case, non-resident at the university, unpaid and advisory.
‘We are deeply concerned about the nature of these allegations but as this is an active police investigation, we cannot comment further at this stage.
‘Whilst this matter is subject to investigation, this person will not be undertaking any duties as visiting professor at Lincoln,’ the spokesperson said.
