Information reaching the desk of Africa Today News, New York had it that Chelsea legend Petr Cech will leave his role as Technical and Performance Advisor at the London club from June 30.
In a statement released on their website on Monday which was sighted by Africa Today News, New York, the club confirmed Cech’s departure which would be official in a matter of days.
Cech has now become the latest high-profile figure to depart following Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital’s takeover.
The former goalkeeper – who has been their technical and performance advisor since 2019 – follows sporting director Marina Granovskaia and club chairman Bruce Buck in departing the west London side.
Cech took up his role at the club shortly after retiring in 2019 following his departure from London rivals Arsenal.
But the former Czech Republic international was best known for his achievements at Stamford Bridge, where he made 494 appearances and won five Premier League titles, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League, and Europa League as a player.
Since retirement, he has worked closely with Granovskaia on transfers and had to play peacemaker with fans following the announcement of the now-defunct European Super League.
But now he has become the latest to leave in Boehly’s shake-up.
Speaking on his departure Cech said: ‘It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years. With the club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.’
And commenting on Cech’s departure, Chelsea chairman and co-controlling owner, Boehly said: ‘Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best.’
Cech’s exit adds further strain to the Blues’ attempts to strength their squad this summer, with Thomas Tuchel’s men yet to make a signing with just over a month to go until the new season begins.
