Ahead of next year’s general elections, the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has provided further insight into why he selected Kashim Shettima as his running mate appealing to Nigerians not to vote based on religious grounds at the polls.
The Vice Presidential candidate of the party is the former Borno State governor who is the Senator representing the state’s central district in the national assembly.
Speaking on Saturday in Abuja when he met with Speakers of states governed by the APC led by Hon. Mudashiru Obasa of Lagos, Tinubu called on the party to unite ahead of 2023.
The lawmakers had visited the standard bearer to congratulate him on his victory at the June special convention while also pledging their loyalty.
Tinubu appreciated the Speakers for the roles they played during the convention to ensure his his emergence.

The flag bearer used the opportunity to appeal to Nigerians to see beyond religion in their quest to strengthen democracy and make Nigeria better during the next Presidential Elections in the country.
On Shettima, the politician disclosrd that he made the decision after ‘wide consultations and some considerations’.
Reiterating his flexibility to spiritual ideologies, Tinubu noted: ‘I am a Muslim married to a Christian, a pastor.’
The APC co-founder further described the Senator as a patriotic and passionate man with the capacity to serve.
He explained that since the APC national chairman, Abubakar Adamu from the North Central, it was just right to look at another zone in the region.
Tinubu also used the opportunity to praise President Muhammadu Buhari for his magnanimity and understanding on the issue of the selection of Shettima.
