Fresh reports hitting the desk of Africa Today News, New York has revealed that the Oyo State House of Assembly, have on Monday finalised the impeachment of the Oyo State deputy governor, Rauf Olaniyan, over some allegations of gross misconduct and financial impropriety, while in office.
The Assembly, had during its emergency sitting, recommended that, having considered the report of the seven-man panel constituted by the Chief Judge of Oyo state to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against the deputy governor, it has found him culpable of all allegations thus its final decision to okay the impeachment process.

The recommendations stated further: “I hereby, recommend for the approval of the house, pursuant to section 188 (19) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended) that the deputy governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan, stand removed from from office with effect from today, Monday July 18, 2022.”
Following this development, the governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde, is expected to announce the name of the new deputy governor, who is expected to be sworn in with immediately effect today, as the assembly planned to reconvene its sitting again in the next few hours.
It had been previously reported that Mr. Rauf Olaniyan, the Oyo State Deputy Governor is in serious trouble as an Oyo State High Court has dismissed a suit which was filed by him against his impeachment.The Oyo State House of Assembly had a few weeks ago initiated an major impeachment process against the deputy governor which would seek to upturn his political powers coming with the deputy Governor position.
Olaniyan had later approached the court to stop the lawmakers from impeaching him. The court has, however, dismissed the suit filed by the deputy governor.
The court presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola dismissed the suit on Thursday. The court also noted that the lawmakers have the right to remove the deputy governor from office.
Akintola while delivering his judgment on Thursday, insisted that the House of Assembly has not breached the provisions of the constitution on the removal of a governor or deputy governor.
