Gov Buni Reacts As Many Are Reported Dead In Boat Mishap

The Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Yobe State Government has finally concluded some of their arrangements to get to establish the proposed emergency response units in the 17 local government areas of the state.

The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni had made this disclosure in a statement by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed in Damaturu.

He had also revealed that the governor had made the assertion when had he paid a working visit to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) headquarters in Abuja.

Governor Buni had also assured the officials that the units would be adequately equipped for early and effective response to disasters at the local level. He said committees would soon be constituted and trained to provide first aid and other necessary assistance to victims of disasters.

In his remarks, NEMA’s Director-General, Mustapha Ahmed, commended the state government for the initiative. He said it would provide fast and efficient support to disaster victims.

He noted that the state stood out as a model in disaster management by always providing effective support to victims.

The high point of the occasion was the decoration of Buni as “ NEMA Ambassador on Disaster Management” by the director-general. Buni was accompanied by the state Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Mustapha Musa.

In another report, Governor Mai Mala Buni had also lauded the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the express approval of ₦18 billion which was made to the state as a refund for the construction of five new federal roads.

Buni, in a statement by his Director-General, Press and Media Affairs, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed, in Damaturu on Thursday had pledged to make judicious use of the refunded money.

He said the refund would provide the state government with opportunities to execute projects that would improve the lives of the people.

“I want to specially commend Mr. President and members of the Federal Executive Council for the sense of fairness to Yobe.

“The refunds would finance other projects that would impact positively on the lives of our people.

“Government would direct the resources into education, healthcare delivery, water supply, employment opportunities, and other infrastructure to improve the lives of our people,” the governor said.
