The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has come under intense fire following his claims that his regime had constructed 150 roads in Abia State. The All Progressives Congress (APC) debunked his claims describing it as fake news.
Ikpeazu had earlier asserted that his administration has paved 150 roads in the state during his life broadcast on August 27 to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the founding of Abia.
Contrary to the Governor’s claims, the APC said that the governor gave himself unrealistic performance ratings in a statement issued by its state chairman, Dr. Kingsley Ononogbu, in response to Ikpeazu’s broadcast, claiming that the governor could only have such a large number of roads in his dream.
He claimed that Ikpeazu had put the populace through years of misery, suffering, and complete failure of governance.

Ononogbu praised Abians for their tenacity and for maintaining optimism for a better future for all of us, our children, and the next generation to come.
He said; ‘In celebrating Abia state at 31, Abians should ideally be celebrating monumental developmental strides given the enormous human and material resources we are endowed with as a people by the Almighty God.’
‘’But in reality and in all honesty, Abians are merely celebrating the anniversary of the creation of the state with nothing concrete on the ground to show for the 31 years of existence when compared with other neighboring States and others created at the same time.’’
‘’The Abia ugly narrative has long become an embarrassment even to the players in the successive administrations since the creation of the State. There is actually nothing to celebrate within the developmental indices, suggesting that what this time calls for is sober reflection by all Abians and to ask ourselves pertinent questions.’’
He said that as the general election in 2023 approaches, residents of the state ought to be asking themselves how their state reached this degree of social dysfunction and what has to be done to buck the troubling trend.
‘These questions and answers are critical at this crucial point in time to avoid a repeat of the mistakes of the past. Abians should cry no more, search no more and look no further because God has heard our cries and prayers by touching credible Abia sons and daughters to take interest in politics.’
In order to accomplish the desired vision of a New Abia, he promised that the APC would favorably bring the system to reform.
