Reports reaching the desk of Africa Today News, New York indicate that Zaporizhzhia, which has recently been occupied by Russian forces, no is anymore connected to its one remaining power grid this – UN nuclear watchdog made this information public.
It was gathered that the plant is currently dependent on a backup line to transmit electricity to Ukraine’s grid.
Local authorities who had supported Russia claimed that shelling-related “technical problems” were responsible for the shutdown. The bombardment of the facility is an allegation leveled by both sides.
In response to mounting security concerns, the UN was forced to deploy delegations to the facility about 48 hours ago.
Thursday saw the arrival of officials from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) at the facility.
Rafael Grossi, the agency’s head, said after surveying the facility that there had been “multiple violations” of its original state.

Zaporizhzhia, in southern Ukraine, is Europe’s largest nuclear plant. It was occupied by Russia soon after it invaded Ukraine in February.
Zaporizhzhia being the biggest nuclear plant in Europe, situated in southern Ukraine was seized up by Russian following its invasion of Ukraine in February.
Operators at the facility who are still Ukrainian claim that Russian troops have used it as a military outpost and that they are being kept at gunpoint.
As a result of receiving prompt and accurate details regarding the most recent development, the IAEA said in a release that its presence at the plant was ‘game-changing.’
‘The agency’s experts were told by senior Ukrainian staff that the [Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant’s] fourth operational 750 Kilovolt (kV) power line was down,’ the delegation said
‘The three others were lost earlier during the conflict.’
A 330/750 kV backup line, however, took over the supply of electricity to the grid — it’s also capable of powering the plant within this short time.
Africa Today News, New York recalls that on August 25, the IAEA reportedly observed a momentary disruption of the main power line.
Furthermore, the Ukrainian military forces’ attempt to recapture the complex on Friday evening was unsuccessful, according to the Russian defense ministry.
