Mary Elizabeth Truss who was the former Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Affairs of the United Kingdom has been announced as the new United Kingdom Prime Minister after the recent concluded elections for Boris Johnson’s replacement.
The South West Norfolk MP, who had also been in the British Parliament since May 2010, would be taking over from Boris Johnson, becoming Conservatives Party’s fourth PM since the 2015 election.
Truss who is 47 years would also be the third female to be the United Kingdom Prime Minister after “Iron Lady” Margaret Hilda Thatcher and later Theresa Mary May.
She had also defeated former Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak to attain the feat. (Results as announced by Sir Graham Stuart Brady, Returning Officer & Chairman of the 1922 Committee.

In a short victory speech at the announcement which had been made in a central London convention hall, Truss had revealed that it was an “honour” to be elected after undergoing “one of the longest job interviews in history”.
“I campaigned as a Conservative, and I will govern as a Conservative,” she said, touting Tory values of low taxes and personal responsibility.
Truss vowed a “bold plan” to address tax cuts and the energy crisis.
Details are expected in the coming days.
Truss, 47, will be only the UK’s third female prime minister following Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher.
It has also been revealed that she will also formally take the office on Tuesday after Johnson had tendered his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II.
Truss reserved a portion of her short speech to praising Johnson’s record, including on Brexit and the Covid pandemic, and said he was “admired from Kyiv to Carlisle” in a tone of praise.
