In a fresh announcement which had been put out on Wednesday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has finally revealed that only one 2023 candidate for the 2023 elections had actually appeared for integrity test which had been billed to take place in Katsina.
NDLEA State Commander, Muhammed Bashir had also made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
Bashir had revealed that only the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) governorship flagbearer, Imran Jino had visited the agency for the test and tested free.
The official urged politicians contesting for various political positions in Katsina to come for the test and the NDLEA commander had also added that doing such would encourage their supporters to shun drug abuse.
“Politicians should not encourage those using drugs within their campaign environment, and we are still advising them to come up for integrity tests.
“I’m happy that one of the governorship candidates has done that; others should take a cue from that.”
Bashir noted that the electioneering ahead of the 2023 general elections can be free, fair and peaceful if politicians caution their followers against hard abuse.
“As a politician, you don’t need to give drugs to your supporters for them to be able to support you and you don’t need to be violent.”
The NDLEA commander described drug abuse as the mother of all crimes and that giving illicit substances to youths will destroy them.
In another report, the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the recovery of about 13,451,466 pills of Tramadol 225mg worth N8.86billion from one of the mansions of a billionaire drug baron, Ugochukwu Nsofor Chukwukadibia, in the highbrow residential estate, Victoria Garden City, Lekki area of Lagos.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi explained that the arrest and recovery followed credible intelligence, which made NDLEA operatives on Friday 30th September storm the Plot A45 Road 2 home of the 52-year-old billionaire drug kingpin.
He also said a search of the expansive mansion led to the discovery of 443 cartons of Tramadol Hydrochloride 225mg, which contains 13, 451, 466 pills of the drug while some cartons were already burnt in a fire incident in the house the same day.
