The United States Government in a bid to begin the evacuation of some of its staff and family members have finally granted departure status to some of its staff at the Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
This is had been revealed in a statement on Wednesday which had announced the approval of the U.S. Department of State.
The permission would also allow the voluntary departure of family members and certain employees due to the risk of attacks as had been warned.

The U.S. Mission in Nigeria had also alerted of plans by some of the terrorists to wreak havoc in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the Embassy in Abuja had revealed that it has limited ability to actually provide emergency assistance to Americans in the country.
The statement advised U.S citizens to have a personal emergency action plan that does not rely on government assistance.
“Take advantage of commercial transportation options, if you wish to depart Nigeria.
“Monitor local media for breaking news on the security situation; Be aware of your surroundings; keep a low profile”, the advisory added.
However, the Consulate in Lagos continues to provide routine and emergency services to U.S. citizens.
In another report, The United States has announced the reopening of its embassy in Kyiv after closing it for nearly three months due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the State Department has confirmed.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken in a statement which was sighted by Africa Today News, New York, said; ‘The Ukrainian people, with our security assistance, have defended their homeland in the face of Russia’s unconscionable invasion, and, as a result, the Stars and Stripes are flying over the embassy once again’
‘We stand proudly with, and continue to support, the government and people of Ukraine as they defend their country from the Kremlin’s brutal war of aggression’ he added.

Recall that the State Department closed the embassy in Kyiv on February 14, 10 days before Russian troops poured over the border in a long-anticipated effort to oust the Ukraine government and install one more in line with Moscow.
