Mr. Rajab Mohammed who is the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), Yobe State Council has turned down his appointment as member of the APC presidential campaign council.
A copy of a letter obtained by Africa Today News, New York on Tuesday which was dated 13th December 2022 and signed by the Director of Media of the APC campaign, Bayo Onanuga, indicated that Rajab Mohammed was listed as one of the members of the Media and Publicity Directorate of the Yobe APC presidential campaign council.
However, in a statement issued to newsmen in Damaturu on Wednesday morning, Rajab explained that the ethics of the journalism profession does not allow him to accept such an appointment nor serve in such a committee.
‘As a journalist, I remain neutral and, therefore, cannot be seen as taking side with a political party as accepting to serve on the council will compromise my integrity,’ he said.

The NUJ Yobe state Chairman assured to offer professional advice(s) to the council when the need arises.
In another report, the Spokesperson of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo has asserted that the endorsement of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, won’t affect his principal who he believes is Nigeria’s next President.
Africa Today News, New York recalls that Obasanjo had on Sunday formally endorsed Obi for the February 25 election, saying that the former Anambra State Governor has an edge over other candidates. But Keyamo has waved off the development, maintaining that Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won’t be impacted.
According to the APC PCC spokesperson, Obasanjo’s action proves that as Atiku’s former boss, he does not think that the PDP candidate deserves to be President this time around.
He tweeted on Sunday: ‘Quite within OBJ’s right to endorse anyone, but bad for PDP in 2 ways: (1.) Atiku’s former boss does not think he deserves to be President this time around (2) The little support OBJ gave PDP in 2019 & they failed, he has taken that away to LP. No effect at all on @officialABAT.’
In his 2023 New Year message personally signed by the ex-President and made available to Channels Television by his spokesman, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo described Obi as his mentee and said the former Anambra State Governor has an edge in the February 25, 2023 election.
