Ahead of next week’s general elections, the governorship candidate on the platform of the Labour Party in Kano State, Bashir Bashir in a rather shocking move has dumped his party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
On January 21, the governorship candidate staged a boycott of the party’s presidential rally held in Kano, alongside the chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council, Mohammed Zarewa; the state coordinator of Peter Obi’s campaign, Balarabe Wakili, and a member of the presidential campaign council, Idris Dambazau.
A source close to the candidate, who confirmed the defection of Bashir, alongside other LP leaders, to the APC to Africa Today News, New York, blamed their defection on the exclusion of major northern stakeholders from its decision-making process, as well as lack of clear-cut direction on the interest of northern Nigeria.

In another report, a member of the Integrity Group and former Governor of Plateau State, Jonah Jang, has berated the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Governor Simon Lalong, over his claim that the G-5 governors led by Nyesom Wike were supporting the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Reacting to the claim in a statement on Sunday, Jang stated that Nigerians no longer took anything coming from Lalong seriously.
The statement, which was signed by his Media Consultant, Clinton Garuba, said, ‘Obvious sign that Lalong is daydreaming is him thinking that the G5 PDP governors and allies including former Governor Jang are supporting Tinubu.
‘They have repeatedly said that they do not have personal problems with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, but with the process that brought him up.
‘Yes, the integrity group has disagreements with the PDP and their withdrawal of support for Atiku’s campaign does not in any way suggest that they support the APC candidate. Only Lalong and his fellow dreamers think so.’
Africa Today News, New York reports that the aggrieved governors namely, Wike of Rivers State, Samuel Ortom (Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo), have been at loggerheads with the PDP leadership over the zoning of the party’s high-ranking positions.
