Princess Abiodun Oyefusi who is the deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State has called for the zoning of the Senate Presidency and Speakership to women.
Oyefusi made the demand while speaking to reporters on Monday on the role of women in political participation and the country’s development.
The 10th National Assembly in Nigeria is expected to be inaugurated in the first or second week in June after the swearing-in of President-elect Bola Tinubu.
Oyefusi pointed out that having women lead the federal legislature would substantiate the reality of running an inclusive government.

On Monday, she said it was important to uphold the provisions of the national gender policy and be intentionally gender inclusive.
The woman advocate asked political leaders to honour the judgment on the implementation of the national gender policy.
The judgement was granted in favour of Nigerian women by Honourable Justice Donatus Okorowo of the Federal High Court.
‘I am using this opportunity to call on all elected lawmakers to zone the Speaker and Senate President positions to the female gender.
‘This will substantiate the reality of running an inclusive government. Such action will be described as a show of peace and understanding,’ Oyefusi noted.
Recall that Nigeria’s Vice President-elect, Senator Kashim Shettima has come out to submit that the incoming Bola Tinubu-led administration will be women-friendly, assuring women that their place in the next government is guaranteed.
Shettima made this known at the reading session of a book authored by the former Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala-Usman.
In the book titled, ‘Stepping on Toes: My Odyssey at the Nigerian Ports Authority,’ Usman detailed her experience under the former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, among other issues.
