Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State on Sunday made a plea to civilians, urging them to offer their assistance to the Nigerian Army as they combat bandits and various criminal elements nationwide.
During the inter-denominational service held at Anglican Cathedral Jalingo, Taraba, as part of the 2023 Army Day Celebration, Mr. Kefas took the opportunity to make his call, urging civilians to provide their support to the Nigerian Army.
Given his own background as an army officer, the governor made it clear that his administration would go above and beyond in providing support to the army, working tirelessly to protect Taraba, a border state, and various other parts of the country.
Addressing army officers and soldiers in his thought-provoking sermon titled ‘A Call to Service’, Bishop Nedison Foreman, the bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Jalingo, stressed the significance of selflessness in their commitment to serving humanity.
In acknowledging the army’s longstanding commitment to defending Nigeria, Mr. Nedison commended their role throughout the years. However, he strongly criticized those who engage in extorting money from drivers on the road, urging them to change their ways.

‘Nigerian Army has been very strong in defending the country and even other countries that need help like Liberia, and Sierra Leone, among others, over the years,’ he said. ‘I urge Nigerians to join hands in supporting the army with information and everything they need in carrying the work effectively for the peace of the nation.’
In his capacity as the Commanding Officer of the Army 6 Brigade in Jalingo, Brig.-Gen. Frank Etim stressed the inclusion of the church service as a key component in the lineup of activities to observe the 2023 Army Day celebration on Saturday.
Mr. Etim noted that the army personnel had gathered in the church to humbly acknowledge the mercies bestowed upon them by the Almighty God, with the sole purpose of returning all glory and honor to Him.
