Delta Gov Okays Public Servants' Promotion Arrears Payment

In adherence to the Delta State Government’s dedication to clearing all pending promotion arrears owed to public servants in the state, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has given the authorization for the payment of outstanding arrears to the committed staff of the State Public Service, starting from August 2023.

A circular signed by the Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, was circulated to communicate the Governor’s approval.

According to Bayoko, the payment schedule will commence in August 2023, with Civil Servants in the Ministries being the first to receive their payments. This will be followed by payments to staff in the Judiciary, Parastatals, and Hospitals Management Board (HMB) in September 2023.

He words: ‘Governor Oborevwori has approved a specific payment schedule, wherein the promotion arrears for staff in Higher Institutions within the state and the Post Primary Education Board (PPEB) will be disbursed in October and November 2023, respectively.’

The Head of Service highlighted the importance of the payment approval as evidence of the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the growth and productivity of Public Service in the state. He emphasised the need for public servants to maintain their hard work and commitment to their duties.

‘This payment serves as a clarion call for commitment, cooperation, and support towards His Excellency’s vision of a productive and thriving Public Service. Therefore, we implore all staff members to maintain the dedication and hard work that has always been the hallmark of the Public Service,’ Bayoko said.

On behalf of public servants in the state, the Head of Service expressed sincere gratitude to the Governor for this gesture, conveying heartfelt appreciation for the Governor’s continuous support and recognition of their contributions.

The Head of Service, Bayoko, extended his appreciation to the former Governor of the State, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, for his prior approval of the payments in principle.

In addition, Bayoko highlighted the significance of timely processing subsequent updates for eligible officers within three months upon receipt of the respective letters, urging Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to give precedence to these matters.
