Osun: Man Falls Prey To Girl's Scheme, Loses ₦1.5m – Police

A 17-year-old girl has been arrested by the Osun Police Command for reportedly using social media to lure her victim from Lagos to Osun where he was robbed.

This information was related by SP Yemisi Opalola, the Command’s spokesperson, in Osogbo on Tuesday.

Opalola revealed that the victim was enticed to Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area by the teenager on June 28.

As per Opalola’s account, the girl, in partnership with other suspects, staged the robbery of the man’s phone, which was subsequently used to transfer N1.5 million from his bank account.

‘On June 28, at about 1.30 p.m, a complainant reported at Ikire Police Division that he met one girl (name withheld) on social media and they started chatting.’

‘He added that he was later invited to come to Osun from Lagos State by the girl.’

‘He stated further that, when he came to Ikire, the girl lured him to her boyfriend’s house where he met some unscrupulous elements who attacked him and collected his phone, which they used to transfer the sum of N1.5 million from his account.’ she said.

Upon receiving the report, police detectives promptly sprang into action and apprehended the suspect, along with Ariyo Ayobami, at their undisclosed location, as stated by the police spokesperson.

The police spokesperson mentioned that as part of the preliminary investigation, another accomplice was apprehended, and diligent efforts are being made to arrest the remaining suspects.

Opalola relayed that, according to the victim’s report on May 11, he was subjected to an attack by three men who were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons at his place of residence.

They forcefully took away his valuables, which included two Toyota Camry cars worth more than N12.46 million, as he narrated.

Acting on intelligence gathered, detectives from the command successfully tracked down the stolen car to Ilorin, leading to the apprehension of Abdulwasiu Jato and Kolawole Iwalaye, who were discovered in possession of one of the stolen cars, according to Opalola’s statement.

Furthermore, according to Opalola, it was revealed that the suspects had in their possession another car, a 2012 model Toyota Corolla, which is suspected to be stolen.

The command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad, on July 9, made the arrest of six armed robbery suspects who had been inflicting terror on motorists at Aba-Ede Junction along the Osu-Ile-Ife highway, according to Opalola’s statement.

The command spokesperson reiterated that upon the completion of the investigation, legal action will be taken, and the suspects will be brought to court for trial.
