Dismissing the conception that numerous private institutions are profit-driven, the Founder and Pro-Chancellor of Azman University in Kano, Abdulmunaf Yunusa Sarina, vows to place the utmost emphasis on quality education as the institution gears up to launch its full academic operations.
This commitment was reiterated by Sarina at the inauguration of the university’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and Governing Council in Kano on Sunday.
Sarina emphasised that the BoT and Governing Council’s involvement would be essential in driving the university’s early stages and ensuring effective academic management.
Sarina, who serves as the President of Azman Group of Companies, said, ‘The journey to establish the university started five years ago when I decided to contribute my quota to education and the development of the youth seeking university education, by establishing a private varsity.’
He credited the Nigeria Universities Commission (NUC) for their unwavering assistance and encouragement, which proved vital during the institution’s establishment.
As part of its socially responsible initiative, Sarina stated that the institution would extend free education to underprivileged youths who demonstrate the necessary qualifications but face financial barriers to pursue higher education.

‘Quality is our watchword at Azman University. We will ensure that we have quality staff, academicians, and students. We have met all the conditions and requirements set by the NUC, and we are fully ready to kick off,’ Sarina asserted.
In his speech, the Chancellor of the University, Prince Engr. Arthur Eze, spoke fondly of his strong association with the North, especially Kano, during the time of late Governor Abubakar Rimi. He specifically mentioned the generosity of being offered free airtime on the state-owned television station, CTV Kano.
He noted that ‘Since then, I have developed a strong relationship with the North, and I have supported the region in various ways, including recently donating N800 million to support Boko Haram victims.’
The Chancellor’s announcement of a donation of N200 million as take-off grants for the institution was met with applause and appreciation.
Prof. Muhammad Yahuza Bello, the Chairman of the occasion and former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, highlighted the inauguration of the board as a significant milestone in the university’s ongoing development.
