Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, announced that the Federal Government is committed to evaluating a salary increase for workers to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
At the National Assembly on Tuesday, Akpabio assured Ekiti state governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, and the visiting parliament members from the state of this decision during their meeting.
Addressing the concerns of Nigerians, the Senate President reassured the populace that the Federal Government is well-informed about the hardships they are enduring due to the elimination of fuel subsidies.
He explained that the removal of fuel subsidy was a pivotal strategy employed by the present administration to combat corruption, as they perceived the fuel subsidy regime to be deeply tainted by corruption.
Apabio stated: ‘Nigeria as a country would not have survived the next few years if the fuel subsidy had not been removed.’

He highlighted that the key to ensuring the government’s capacity to pay salaries and wages lies in the upward revision of these payments, as it would provide the necessary resources for timely disbursement.
Oyebanji extended his compliments to the President of the Senate, recognizing the impressive progress and achievements he has made during his initial month in office.
The governor threw his weight behind Akpabio, assuring him of the backing from both the people and the government. Furthermore, he expressed their eagerness to actively partner with the legislative body to foster progress and prosperity for the country.
The need for salary review at this juncture cannot be overstated, given the diminishing purchasing power of the earnings received by individuals.
