Ahead of the women world cup matchup, Lauren James, Chelsea and England forward, predicted that the Lionesses would have a tough game against the super falcons of Nigeria.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria have been pitted against European champions, England, in the round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
With a milestone of being the first African team to reach the round of 16, the nine-time African champions secured their spot as runners-up in Group B of the competition following a goalless draw with the Republic of Ireland on Monday.
When asked about the upcoming tie against nine-time African champions Nigeria, James said, ‘It’ll be very tough. Teams are catching up with each other. It’ll be a difficult game.’

James’ exceptional play throughout the tournament has led to three goals in the last two games, making her a potential threat that the Falcons’ defense must be alert to.
The much-anticipated round of 16 clash will kick off on Monday, August 7th, 2023, at 8.30 am in Brisbane, Australia.
Topping Group D with nine points, England secured the first position, while Denmark finished second on the log with six points.
Should Nigeria emerge triumphant against England, the Falcons will achieve their best-ever finish at the Women’s World Cup, advancing to the quarter-finals for the first time since 1999.
