Ahead of a crucial round of 16 encounters, England head coach Sarina Wiegman has come to assert his side will come up with a strategy that will help them beat the Super Falcons of Nigeria in their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup last-16 encounter.
Africa Today News, New York reports that the 9-time African champions will face England for a place in the quarter-finals at the Lang Park, Brisbane on Monday.
The Super Falcons have exceeded expectations in the competition by qualifying from a challenging group that includes co-hosts Australia, Olympic champions Canada, and Republic of Ireland.
Wiegman hinted it is important to study the Nigerians and map out a way of stopping them.
‘We are going to study how the Nigerian team plays, take out the strengths and exploit their weaknesses,’ stated the 53-year-old.
Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, has said his team is destined for something special at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The nine-time African champions are already through to the Round of 16 at the competition.
Africa Today News, New York reports that Waldrum’s side were one of the few nations participating in the tournament who were unbeaten in the group stage, with one draw and two draws in three outings.
It’s the first time the Super Falcons will achieve the feat at the Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria will take on England in the Round of 16 on Monday, August 7.
‘I just feel like they all believe we are destined for something special at this World Cup,” Waldrum told reporters on Friday.
‘Our journey is not over and we will be very, very well prepared for whoever we play next week.’
The encounter will the fourth-ever meeting between both teams.
The Super Falcons have won twice, while England have recorded one victory.
