A former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has asserted that it is time to ‘abandon’ a democratic system that fosters a lack of security and peace for the citizenry.
Africa Today News, New York reports that Obasanjo, who was hosted on Friday evening by the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, at the opening of internal roads in Iseyin, described a democracy built on unemployment as a failure.
‘Democracy that nurtures a lack of peace and security must be thrown overboard,’ said Obasanjo.
‘Democracy dividends must involve peace, security, stability, prosperity, wealth creation, employment and the wholesomeness of the society.’
According to the ex-president, democracy is nothing without work and cannot be sustained.

‘Democracy that nurtures poverty is abortion. Democracy that nurtures unemployment is a failure,’ he added.
‘That’s when democracy would continue to survive and people will feel that yes, democracy is a worthwhile system of government that must be embraced.’
Obasanjo also stated that he was particularly delighted that the governor chose him to be part of the success that he is achieving in Oyo State.
While urging Oyo State to invest in agriculture for food sustainability, he said the state must focus on the cultivation of some certain crops that will stand them out among other states across the nation.
Africa Today News, New York reports that earlier in his address, governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde, revealed that the construction of the road and other road projects in the state is in line with his administration’s plan to connect all the five zones in the state as well as curb rural urban migration.
He revealed that his administration would subsequently complete other road projects in the state, including all internal roads across the state.
