Ogun: 2 Suspected Robbers Possibly Killed In Police Gunfight

The Ogun State Police Command reported a showdown on Friday when its personnel confronted armed robbers at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu. During the intense exchange of gunfire, two of the criminals were fatally shot, while the remaining suspects fled, nursing gunshot injuries.

The command reported that the rampaging robbers also targeted one of its officers, an inspector, and two security guards, all of whom sustained gunshot wounds. Thankfully, the wounded officers are currently receiving medical care and are in stable condition.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola on Friday, she said, ‘At about 0100hrs a distress call was received by Acpol Sagamu that armed hoodlums were operating at Remo Majestic Hotel in Sagamu.’

Odutola went on to explain that when the hoodlums caught sight of the police, they didn’t hesitate to open fire. In response, the police engaged the criminals, resulting in two of them being injured, while the rest fled into a nearby thicket.

She went on to say that, as outlined in the report, a collective team of policemen was immediately activated and sent to the location.

Further elaborating, Odutola recounted that upon seeing the police officers, the criminals wasted no time in opening fire. The law enforcement officers retaliated, causing two of the criminals to be wounded, while the others made their escape into a nearby woodland.

The PPRO said, ‘Two locally-made single barrel guns, four unexpended cartridges, thirteen expended cartridges, one big scissors, 10 android phones, one java phone, white Toyota Venza Car with number plate BWR 123DD Abuja were among items recovered at the scene of crime.’

‘One police inspector and two security guards were shot by the armed robbers but were rescued to Olabisi Onabanjo Teaching Hospital Sagamu for medical attention and are reported to be in stable condition.’

According to Odutola’s information, early investigations have revealed that the suspected armed robbers had cunningly assimilated into the hotel’s clientele before perpetrating their malicious attacks.

Amidst these events, Commissioner of Police Abiodun Alamutu has been briefed and has, without delay, issued an order for an intensive manhunt to locate the two fleeing suspects, both of whom sustained gunshot injuries.
