Spanish prosecutors are pressing for a nine-year prison sentence for ex-Brazilian footballer Dani Alves, who stands accused of raping a young woman at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.
Prosecutors, in addition to the sought-after nine-year jail term, are demanding that former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain full-back Dani Alves, currently incarcerated in Spain since his January arrest, compensate his alleged victim with 150,000 euros ($163,500), according to an AFP-obtained copy of his indictment on Thursday.
There is currently no set trial date for the 40-year-old Dani Alves, who contends that the interaction with his accuser was consensual.
‘I have a really clear conscience regarding what happened that night in the bathroom of the VIP area of the Sutton nightclub,’ he told Barcelona-based newspaper La Vanguardia in an interview published in June, his first since his arrest.
‘What happened and what didn’t happen. And what didn’t happen is that I forced this woman to do anything that we did,’ he added.

However, when the story initially surfaced, and prior to his arrest, Alves, in a televised interview, categorically refuted any acquaintance with the woman who filed a police complaint against him on January 2.
Speaking to La Vanguardia, the sportsman admitted to fabricating the truth initially, fueled by the dread that his wife would end their relationship if he came clean about being with another woman.
The detailed narrative of events at the exclusive Sutton nightclub is laid out in the indictment, according to statements from the prosecutors.
Upon meeting at the venue, Alves invited the woman into what she later realized was a restroom, a fact of which she was previously unaware.
After their initial meeting at the venue, Alves urged the woman to enter a space she later realized was a restroom, a detail that had escaped her notice earlier.
After Alves was taken into custody, Pumas UNAM decided to sever ties with him, resulting in his dismissal.
In an illustrious career, Alves amassed a remarkable 42 trophies, which included three Champions League triumphs with Barcelona and two Copa America victories with Brazil.
