Nigerian superstar international, Victor Osimhen got on the scoresheet and set up another as his club, Napoli managed to defeat Cagliari 2-1 in a Serie ‘A’ match on Saturday night.
Africa Today News, New York reports that Osimhen, who recently won the African Footballer Award of the Year, opened the scoring midway into the second half in a game that saw so many missed chances from both sides.
Mario Rui produced a beautiful lofted cross into the box where Osimhen rose high to head the ball off the woodwork into the right side of the goal to make it 1-0 for Napoli.
Cagliari equalised three minutes later after superb work from Zito Luvumbo, who played a vital role in the build-up. He squared it to Leonardo Pavoletti, who beat Alex Meret with a brilliant shot into the top of the net.

In the 74th minute, the ball rebounded out to Matteo Politano, whose shot from the edge of the box went a whisker wide of the right post.
A minute later, Osimhen was in a good shooting position, but he saw his teammate and passed the ball to him.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia took the ball nicely and beat the goalkeeper with a precise shot which bounced in off the left post to make the score 2-1.
A minute to the end of the match, Tommaso Augello found the head of Alberto Dossena with a clever free kick, and he crashed in a powerful close-range header at goal that just flew over the bar.
Recall that Osimhen, will have a release clause of €140m in a one-year Napoli contract extension after an agreement was reportedly reached by Nigerian’s camp for a contract extension till June 2026.
Osimhen’s current deal runs out in June 2025 and he has been linked with several top European clubs.
Africa Today News, New York reported on Wednesday that Osimhen’s agent Roberto Calenda met with Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis over the future of the reigning Africa Footballer of The Year.
