Just days to the commencement of the Africa Cup of Nations, Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface yesterday sustained an injury while in training, which was ruled him out of the tournament.
Africa Today News, New York reports that Jose Peseiro invited a strong list of 25 players, and Bayer Leverkusen star man Boniface made the cut after a superb start to the Bundesliga season that has seen him register ten goals and seven assists in 16 appearances.
Boniface was being touted to partner Victor Osimhen in the attack of the Super Eagles.
However, that partnership may not come to fruition, as Oluwashina Okeleji reports that Boniface is struggling with a muscle injury he picked up in training. This injury kept him out of the Super Eagles’ first preparatory fixture against local Abu Dhabi club, Al Gharib and left him sidelined for the second game against Guinea.

The level of Boniface’s injury is yet to be ascertained, but according to owngoalnigeria.com, Boniface has had a scan while he would be returning to Germany, where he would begin treatment for the groin injury that is expected to keep him out for six weeks.
The striker missed the Super Eagles’ two text games in Abu Dhabi and has not trained with the team as well.
In another report, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has announced a 40% increase in the Prize Money for the Winner of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Côte d’Ivoire 2023 which will be commencing in a matter of years.
According to cafonline.com, the Winner of the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will be going home with a whopping sum of USD 7 000 000.
The Runner-up of the TotalEnergies AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023 will now get USD 4 000 000. Each of the two Semi-finalist will receive USD 2 500 000 and each of the four Quarter-finalist, USD 1 300 000.
