Senate President, Governors Commemorate Fallen Heroes

Senate President Godswill Akpabio and governors joined in commemorating fallen heroes on Sunday, acknowledging their supreme sacrifice in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

Pointing out the substantial cost of Nigeria’s unity, Akpabio underscored that the burden of sustaining and defending this unity falls squarely on the men and women serving in the Armed Forces.

Furthermore, he stated that the administration under President Bola Tinubu is dedicated to the singular goal of maintaining Nigeria as an inseparable and indivisible nation.

Akpabio took the podium at the National Christian Centre in Abuja, addressing attendees during the Interdenominational Church Service held in commemoration of the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The Senate President said, ‘If only we could share the pain they feel, then we would truly understand the imperative of eschewing insecurity and violence in all its forms.’

‘Once again, let us salute the courage and appreciate the sacrifices of our men and women of the Armed Forces. Let us stand in solidarity with the families of our fallen heroes and heroines. I assure you that the government will continue to evolve policies to address the challenges you face as a result of your loss.’

Likewise, Ekiti State Governor Mr. Biodun Oyebanji urged the public to rally behind the families of Nigeria’s fallen heroes and uphold the legacy of patriotism, love, and unity.

The governor, through his Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), addressed the gathering during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Thanksgiving Service in Ado Ekiti on Sunday.

Oyebanji said, ‘Armed Forces Remembrance Day was put in place to celebrate the meritorious service of the retired soldiers and the fallen heroes who fought for the peace and unity of Nigeria’

‘Looking at these sacrifices, they deserve a lot of praise from the people. The public must support the families they left behind likewise the legacy of patriotism, love and unity.’

Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia stressed the necessity for Nigerians to demonstrate compassion towards the families of the fallen heroes.

The governor delivered his speech on Sunday at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Makurdi, during the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Interdenominational Service.

He said, ‘Meeting the needs of those who have put their lives on the line in the line of duty to keep the country safe is the only way they can forget their ugly moments while in service.’
