Wike vows To End Open grazing in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has expressed strong displeasure over the movement of cattle within Abuja city even as he vowed to arrest the situation. 

Speaking to worried residents of Abuja, Wike noted that plans are on to put an end to the roaming of cattle within the city centre.

He offered the assurance in Abuja when he received in audience the Belgian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Daniel Bertrand.

Wike said he had initiated multifaceted discussions with different relevant critical stakeholders on the need to end the roaming of cattle in the city.

The Minister also noted that fighting insecurity in FCT demands multifaceted approaches which the administration was already adopting to defeat criminalities.

He added that his administration has also intensified partnership drives with the private sector transportation players, in a bid to beef up security in the city.

Earlier in his speech, the Ambassador, Daniel Bertrand who had raised concerns over the roaming of cattle on the streets of Abuja, expressed satisfaction, learning that the minister had initiated a fight against the menace.

Bertrand also expressed interest in getting investors from his country to partner with FCTA in the development of the nation’s capital.

In another report, Wike has expressed satisfaction with the work being done by contractors in the nation’s capital, reiterating that no ongoing project would be abandoned.

Wike explained that the projects that are considered as priority have been included in the FCT’s 2024 statutory budget for adequate funding.

Ongoing projects in the territory include the provision of Wuye District infrastructure, the FCT Highway 105 (11km six lane dual carriageway) linking the Airport Expressway to Kuje and the official residence of the Vice President.

Speaking on the projects, Wike said he was very happy with the speed and quality of work and commended the contractors.
