The leadership shake-up in Kebbi State sees the removal of Muhammad-Sauwa as District Head of Sauwa, alongside a six-month suspension for Muhammad Bashir-Guluma, the District Head of Guluma.
The announcement, disclosed by Mansir Shehu, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, was disseminated to journalists in Birnin Kebbi, the state’s capital, over the weekend.
According to him, the decision to terminate and suspend the two district heads aligns with the Public Services Rule 030301(0), which specifically addresses instances of grave misconduct.
He said, “The termination and suspension of the two district heads of Sauwa and Guluma in Arugungu Local Government is as a result of a committee’s report constituted to investigate them.
“After the committee’s investigation, they were found guilty. Meanwhile, the termination and suspension took effect from 29th February 2024.”
Shehu explained that on January 31, 2024, a committee of inquiry was set up to investigate the allegations presented by the Arugungu LG council.
This, according to him, necessitated the establishment of the committee which swung into action immediately, adding that their report shows that the two affected district heads were found guilty.
He elaborated that the district head of Sauwa exhibited persistent insubordination, while the district head of Guluma was noted for a milder form of insubordination, resulting in a six-month salary suspension.
“For the District Head of Guluma, Alhaji Muhammad Bashar-Guluma, the commission considered and approved a lesser penalty of six months suspension and stopped his salary for six months for an act of insubordination as the committee found him guilty of committing,” he added.
