On Sunday, a dissenting faction within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State’s Ganduje Ward, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, declared Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the party’s National Chairman, suspended.
Ganduje’s political fortunes took a hit last week as Haladu Gwanjo, the ward’s Legal Adviser, declared his suspension.
Citing corruption and other misconduct, Haladu Gwanjo announced that nine executive members of the Ganduje ward party leadership unanimously agreed to suspend Ganduje.
However, the state party leadership swiftly intervened, suspending the ward executives responsible for the move, effectively ending the rebellion.
In a show of solidarity, the party’s ward chairman, Ahmad Ganduje, publicly endorsed Ganduje, praising his leadership approach and expressing the ward officials’ full backing.

As the ward chairman expressed their support for Ganduje, he simultaneously urged all party members to maintain peace and adhere to the law, promoting a harmonious and stable environment.
A new faction, asserting their authority as the authentic executives, announced Ganduje’s suspension on Sunday morning, introducing another twist in the ongoing power struggle.
Flanked by 11 other executive members, Ja’afar Ganduje, the faction’s secretary, addressed the press, attributing the suspension of Ganduje to his purported involvement in anti-party activities.
He specifically cited Ganduje’s actions during the last general election as a prime example of anti-party behavior.
Ja’afar Ganduje also claimed that the national chairman had not fulfilled his financial responsibilities to the party, leaving a debt unpaid.
He further blamed Ganduje for contributing to the factionalisation of the party at the ward level, which he said had brought the party to disrepute.
“We are the authentic executives of Ganduje ward and we have passed a vote of no confidence and imposed a new suspension on Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for series of reasons.
“First, we have suspended Dr. Ganduje’s membership for creating internal conflict among party members at the ward level.
“Another major reason why the authentic executives resolved to suspend Ganduje is the issue of anti-party activities he generated during the 2023 elections which resulted to the party’s failure in the state,” he said.
