Tinubu's Govt Fixes Date To Open Student Loan Portal

The President Bola Tinubu-led federal Nigerian government has finally announced that the application portal for the much-awaited student’s loan will open on Friday, May 24.

Mr. Nasir Ayitogo who is the spokesman of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), made this in a statement made available to Africa Today News, New York on Friday morning.

The loan scheme allows students to access loans to pursue their academic aspirations without financial constraints.

The statement reads: “The management of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, led by its Managing Director, Mr Akintunde Sawyerr, is thrilled to announce 24 May 2024, as the official date for the opening of the portal for student loan applications.

“This marks a significant milestone in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) commitment to fostering accessible and inclusive education for all Nigerian students. Through the portal, students can now access loans to pursue their academic aspirations without financial constraints. The portal provides a user-friendly interface for students to submit their loan applications conveniently.”

The development comes eight months after President Tinubu announced that the programme would not kick off in September 2023.

In another report, Tinubu has written the House of Representatives, seeking its approval for the federal government to grant (reimburse) N24 billion promissory notes to Kebbi and Nasarawa state governments.

The N15 billion and N9 billion promissory notes for the Kebbi State and the Nasarawa State respectively are for the takeover of the airports’ built by the two states by the federal government.

Africa Today News, New York reports that the president’s request was conveyed in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Abbas Tajudeen and read at plenary on Thursday by the deputy speaker, Hon Benjamin Kalu who presided over the sitting.
