2 Killed, 7 Kidnapped In Ebonyi Community Attack

Two persons have been confirmed killed in an attack at Ikachi village in the Akparata area of Effium in the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

A spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack to Channels Television on Monday.

The police spokesperson said that two persons were killed and seven others abducted during the attack which happened on Sunday, adding that properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by the attackers.

We are aware of the attack, two persons were killed and seven others kidnapped. The command is on top of the situation.

“We are working with other security agencies to ensure that peace returns to the area,” Ukandu stated.

Ezza Effium and Effium communities have been in a communal war since January 2021 and the state government is doing everything possible to restore peace in the war torn area.

In another report, some yet-to-be-identified gunmen last weekend attacked a police checkpoint on the Abakaliki/Enugu highway killing at least one policeman and setting a police patrol van on fire.

Africa Today News, New York gathered that the incident happened at the Ishieke Junction, on the outskirts of the Abakaliki metropolis.

As of the time this report was filed, there was no independent confirmation of the reports from local sources claiming that the gunmen had also kidnapped a second police officer.

When contacted, however, the state Police Command Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the attack to newsmen.

Ukandu said the incident occurred on Thursday at about 7.15am and that hoodlums in a Sienna car attacked the police checkpoint at the state’s Ishieke junction.

He noted that the officers were able to repel the attackers, adding, however, that one of the officers was “fatally wounded,” and a patrol car was set ablaze.
